Just wondering if anyone has had or heard of this happening.

Earlier today I caught my toe on this spot that I always seem to stub my toe on. So I'm doing my swearing dance. My two cats come out to see whats wrong like they usually do.

I sit down to look at the damage and one jumps up next to me screeches and launches himself at my head. I pull him off and try to catch him in a blanket and he does it again. Get him off again and his brother tries to get in the middle of it but I catch him in a blanket. He seems to calm down.

I have gouges on my arms and at least one on my scalp. Not sure what the heck happened. This is far from normal behavior for my kitty. They are both usually the sweetest animals.

Any idea?

Did you accidentally step or sit on his tail or foot?

Nope he jumped up on the couch next to me and launched himself. No prior contact at that time

I had a cat do that once . . . launched himself at me when I was playing with my grandkids and they were squealing & laughing. He got a couple good claw marks in my thigh. Maybe it has something to do with the noise -- my grandkids squealing and whatever you were yelling when you hit your toe!

Are you using a new scent? Years ago I had taken a bath in Skin So Soft. The cat came in the room, took one look (sniff) and started growling at me. My boyfriend had to take him out of the room!

Could your screech have sounded in any way like another male cat challenging him? (reaching here!) Especially if there are any females in heat anywhere near your house. Even fixed males can get a little agitated during that time. Mine sure does...

My cat has attacked me a couple of times when he smelled another cat on me (I pet the feral cats in my front yard) and I honestly think he thought my arm WAS the other cat. I am careful to wash my hands right away if I have another strange animal scent on me.

Another time, he freaked out and attacked my son and then me, when the vacuum made a horrible grinding noise, just as he saw a quilt on the floor that had an animal print.. I think he thought it was attacking him...

How is he now? I would not pet him or touch him for at least two or three days. It is kind of a punishment and it is also a way to let him calm down. It can sometimes take a cat a few days to un-spook.

He's not fixed, neither of them are. But my vet thinks that they are insane cause they don't behave like toms. They act like neutered cats.

I have no idea if there are any females in heat around the house... they are both strictly indoor kitties. Reaching is fine :) I'm just tryin to figure out what happened since it was so outta character.

He was following me around after and watching me. Even laid down on my bed for a bit. I had to go to work so I'm not sure how he's doing right now... he's not sleeping in here at the moment. I have been trying to let him be because I'm a little spooked and don't want him to decide I'm prey cause he smells fear ;)

Maybe he's getting ready to go into heat?

I think its probably the noise/unusual behavior, cats can really come unglued when that happens, which sounds like he did
