CFL disposal

It's like the bamboo bandwagon. Bamboo is out because of the huge amount of damage it does to the environment to process the bamboo. Seems the do gooders don't research before getting on their high horses.

I didn't think you were supposed to throw these in the trash -- inside a glass jar or otherwise. I thought you had to take them to a hazardous material disposal site.
There is no way that these bulbs with mercury in them are better for the environment IN THE LONG RUN. Just wait til all that mercury starts seeping out of the landfills and into our water supply due to improper disposal.

I am using old type bulbs as they have a much brighter light for sewing with. Could you explain the danger of the new bulbs? I have had them break in my hand or close to . What danger am was I in.

FYI-I just had to clean up a broken CFL bulb for my mother. In case you break one: you must open the door or window for 10-15 minutes to clear the mercury vapor. DO NOT vacuum. Use thin cardboard to gather up the pieces and place inside a glass jar with a top. Use tape to pick up any remaining particles. The waste is to be stored outside until trash pick-up.
It, really odd to d of so many issues with CFL bulbs. We had some in fixtures for years with nno problems. You might want to check the fixtures and the wattage of the bulbs.
