Hi,
I posted back in June about feeling a little sad about becoming an empty nester. Appreciated all the support and conversation that was generated.
Just checking in to see how people are doing. We dropped our DS off this afternoon. The college was so organized. We drove on a large sidewalk right up to the dorm, were given a parking pass for 20 minutes and the wrestling team came right up to help with our stuff. We were home before we knew it! (And many of you were right, DS is planning to come home this long weekend. huh?)
Am looking forward to time with DH, time with my projects and making extra time for a few good friends.

I'm not a recent empty nester (my kids are all married and have kids of their own now).
But I well remember the days they went off to college.

As much as I looked forward to their visits home I found myself slowly learning to like having less "mother-ing" to do. I raised them to stand on their own 2 feet and they were doing it (or beginning to)....

You'll never be 100% glad they're gone....but you'll learn to hate it a little less. I've found it's a love/hate situation.

Ohhhh, MommaB...you certainly phrased it well. On Aug 14th we moved our youngest to Purdue for her junior year and on the 21st moved our middle daughter to her house at Butler Univ, in Indy for her final semester. By last Sunday evening, DH and I felt that the house was our own once more! I love my kids dearly when they are home and love them even more when they go back to school! We have raised our kids well (patting self on the back here) and are looking forward to the future. We have one married son, our senior DD will be married next June, and hopefully (one of these days) we will have grandchildren to spoil. I hope all of you who are empty-nesters for the first time are learning to enjoy it!

We've been empty for 2 years, and it's fantastic! Can't believe all the fun we have. And all the kids (7 of them!) are having great lives. Sunday afternoon is for phone calls, (plus other times too, of course). I can't say enough about loving the empty nest. Learn to enjoy each stage of your life. Try not to dwell on a closed chapter. Enjoy each stage, making the best of it.

We are sort-of "have been" empty nesters. For a little while. DD#2 & 3 went to college within 80 miles (#2) and 150 miles(#3) so they were in and out. DD#3 is back home since she graduated with her Master's Degree at end of May and will be getting married October 30th and moving out again.
We have really missed our kids not being home, but with here back again, we have missed having some "alone" time. Fortunately when she marries she will only be a few blocks away as well as DD#1 and her DH. They are here in town only a few blocks away as well.

You sure miss them when they are gone....But soon enough you learn to miss them and also enjoy that they are only home for visits.

We are sort of empty nesters. Our youngest bought his house 2 yrs ago and moved out. We had all kinds of remodeling ideas that we were going to start. But due to circumstances, i now take care of my grandkids to save their parents the high cost of daycare. So now my house if full of dolls, trucks, cribs, etc.
We will have to wait to be true emptynesters for a while!

Our 3 kids are 48 - 44 - 40-1/2 and believe me It was great from the start and still is.
Our 23 yr. old Granddaughter lives with us and has for 5 yr.s, not the same, she runs her own life and very responsible, we just provide her a place to live.

Up North

We were empty nesters for 2 months, Long enough for me to redo the room in the basement for ME, then one moved back home then another, now I only have one but he does his own thing for the most part but I lost my room in the process. I had them, I will keep them till the economy rights itself and they can get decent jobs.
