How many Christmas stockings do you hang? Our family has never hung more than one per person, but so many people are writing about making stockings that I am wondering what they are doing with them? If you only hang one per person and that one is a very special one, then what do you do when someone gives you one that is less special?

My mother knits each of us a stocking after birth (kids and now grandkids). She actually developed arthritis in one finger when she had 3 new grandsons in one year! Those are the ones we use. They are so cool. She lost the "tension" with my husband's stocking and it is big enough to hold a boatload of gifts. Those stockings will never be replaced. if someone gave me another, I might use it around the house as a christmas decoration but the ones from my mother go under the tree and get filled.

I make them and donate to different charities - the military is always looking for them for the service people- nursing homes - we also have a member this year collecting them for children

My mom started the tradition of having a special knit stocking for each of us kids. When we got married she made one for our spouse, then the grandchildren. Now that she has passed, it is my honor to knit a stocking for the next in line. Any other stockings I make are given away to those who do not have one.
