My daughter is making a go at trying to make clothes. We went to Joanne's yesterday and they have a Prom contest where you make a prom dress and can get some pretty great prizes. I told her how much I love this board and she asked if there is one like to for sewing garments vs. quilts.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

Try yahoo groups and type in "sewing clothing", or similar, in the yahoo groups search bar. It will come up with several different groups, read down and select whatever fits your needs.

Hooray for her! I wish I could have gotten my daughters (who are now married) interested in sewing. Good luck to your daughter. Be sure to post a picture of her dress when she's done.
These sites have sewing forums but I don't know if there's any help for formal wear.

I just bought a pattern for a long dress for my son's wedding. After spending $359 for my daughter's dress last June and $28 for son's last sept. (I got such an awesome deal) among all the other associated costs, I need a break. Now to find out what color and fabric I want.

I got Simplicity #2638. The girls are wearing pink and yellow, don't know what other mom is wearing. I don't want to stand out and don't want to be blah either. It is an outdoor wedding so I think I will get a pashima for my shoulders.

Last years colors were a dusty amethyst and deep grey. Wish I could wear the deep grey one again, it wass soo soft and comfy. So what's the trends for Mother of the Groom?

This is the specific thread that she will want to check on. Hope this helps her. She'll need to register there to get to that link of course.
