All I can suggest is for you to reboot your computer. That's what I have done when that happens to mine.

It sounds like somehow you turned off your menu bar. Right click on the upper part of your screen and a list of your toolbars should come up. Make sure your Navigation Toolbar has a check by it and you should get everything back you need.
