Hi, I thought I would post this here, because I know alot of us quilters have furry family members.

Has anyone ever heard of cushings disease in dogs? We were just told our lab has it. I plan on gooling it, but sometimes others can shed more understandable information on a subject, then reading or hearing medical terms.

From what I have been told, there is nothing you can do for it, and it will effect their ability to walk. Pella is 12 yrs old, so I am sure her age is against her.
Thanks
Marilynn

One of my grand-dogs had that. Yep, nothing you can do about it. We just lost him about a year ago. He was about 9 years old. Unfortunately he did have to be put to rest. I don't recall how many years he had it. Couldn't even tell anything was wrong with him until the last few months.

Our beagle had it. She was also 12. Breaks your heart doesn't it.

Thank you Nancy. The only way we found out is Pella went in for eye surgery and the blood tests came back showing it.

She has had stiff hind quarters for several years, but the vet told us it was joints.

Thank you

I would like to know what causes it, or what could help at this point (no meds though, natural)
She is on a high protien food, so hope that doesn't add to it and she takes joint treatment.

Thanks ladies.

I wonder why they tell you when there isn't anything they can do for them. I think I would rather not know. God Bless

I've known lots of dogs that have/had it. Not really that uncommon. Some were very young when diagnosed and lived for years. Sad to say, but a big breed that's 12, Cushings may not be his demise. Just enjoy what time you have left and do whatever it takes to keep him comfortable!

So sorry to hear your dog has Cushing's disease. My DH was a Veterinarian for 30 years and he saw several of these cases.

I have an informative web site where you can read about it.
