I was surfing the internet looking for a quilt fabric and got suckered into a virus. I should have known better than to click on that darn button. Couldn't use my computer for hours. Funny because I have antivirus software and it didn't even catch it. Thank goodness my SIL is very smart about computers and walked me through what I had to do to get rid of the dang thing and so far it looks like I fixed it.

Phew...learned my lesson!

Twice in the last month I have picked one up, where you are clicking on the link what ever it may be, and this pretend virus scanner comes up on your screen. It then locks out your ENTIRE system, everything, and the only thing you can do or go is to their website to buy there so called antivirus software. These scammers reallly annoy me, becasue they prey on the poor unsuspecting people who dont know any better and buy their so called software and then they have your personal details about everyhting, even your IP address.

Both times I had to restore my system, not that it was hard to do, just very annoying.

It got both my daughter's laptops within a month of each other! If you click to buy their software, that's a scam too. They take your money but the software is bogus! They got her computers because the children clicked it. No matter how much we told them not to click on things they didn't know, they did anyway :x We now have anti-spyware and malware programs in addition to our virus program!

Yep...that is the one I got too! And it looks so realistic I thought it really was a microsoft warning.

My SIL told me that when this happens again don't click on anything. Do the control alt delete thing and shut down my programs through the task manager.

I'm so glad he is in the family :-D

Yep, you dont want to find out the hard way...its just a total scam, there are a few of them getting around at the moment.

Bit like that Nigeria scam thing really isnt it.....makes you wonder how many people they have caught out.

Helps when you have a Computer techie in the family too lol. the first time it happened to me, I had a wonderful frinds fix mine for me, and I took notes so if it happened again, I could fix it with out having to bother her! Glad I did

Bless your heart. I had that to happen, too. Boy, it makes me firey mad. Reminds me of the kid in the neighborhood who burst your basketball cause he can't play. Hackers needs their pants dusted - the hard way!

Bless me Lord,
Ruth

Thanks for reminding me why I love my Mac! Both my husband and I use Macs for work and play, and both of us have had 25+ years virus free!
