I got fed up the other day with rumor central and went straight to the source on the use of color in the chat room. I like to be either blue or red and I know that when one of my friends is in there she prefers to be red. It helps her see better. I decided to go straight to the source and find out thee truth. This is what I was told in response:

...........since color changes are available, it's reasonable to assume that they are allowed. the problems start because some people have a hard time reading text written in some of the colors. nasty arguments have started when a person using colors refuses to change back to black when asked. sometimes it's the asker who's nasty; sometimes it's the refuser.

sometimes the trouble starts because somebody will play with the colors, constantly changing, etc, and that also makes it difficult for some to read and follow the conversation. usually, that sort of person came into the room intent on causing problems, but not always.

so, once again we see a situation in which features offered to make the experience a bit of fun has been abused by a few. it's becoming a constant source of fights and headaches.

as long as they remain available, a person wouldn't get booted for using them. they will get booted if they are either too nasty in the way they demand that somebody stop using them, or if they are selfish, belligerent and nasty in the way they refuse to stop using them.

you can help by reporting abuse to Admin. he'll need very specific input, including usernames. he has access to the chat logs and can investigate to make sure action is taken against only those who've violated standards of behavior.

please help us spread the word. it's a Chat Room - not the Ultimate Fighting Championship Arena. ..........

OOooops, let me back out on this one. I have NO idea what she's talking about. Bad me, I've never been to the chat room and don't know about colors. Perhaps I'll go now.

I do, however, LOVE the multicolored roses.

Went to the chat room but my name came up red. Better not do that again. All the text was black so I still don't know what this is about but color does seem a little insignificant to go postal about. My motto: If it bothers you, don't go there.
If I only want every thing done in purple then I need to live in my own little purple world. I can't force others to paint their houses purple.

I wonder if there is a way that the administrator can allow you to only see a color but everyone else see you in black. It should be possible but might take some time to get it done. I haven't written code in over 20 years.

I think the point ReRe's trying to get across here was these facts:

1) Not everyone can see the colors that folks are choosing.
2) Someone spoke up and asked another chatter to change their color as they couldn't ready what was written in the chat room.
3) The one who had an "unreadable" color got nasty (and/or the original requestor got nasty)

So to sum up what I'm getting out of the original post is
1) Treat others as we wish to be treated
2) Think about the color scheme in the chat room and how it might affect others ability to participate
3) This is not a "fighting war zone" and if you have someone being unruly or nasty, let the admin know.

Please, if there are problems like this in the chat room, let the moderators know about it (you can go to the home page and see who is on line at the time) so that they can take care of the problem or notify Admin about it. :D:D:D
