My dr just put me on a yeast and sugar free diet. She thinks I have an overgrowth of yeast which is contributing to my health problems. Mainly my fibro pain. I am to do a yeast cleanse for the next 30 days. She gave me prescriptions for diflocan (sp) acidopholis pearls.

This is going to be so hard. With my 15 food allergies that pretty much leaves me with nothing but meat to eat!

Has anyone else done this diet? If so, can you be my buddy and help me figure out how to eat? I feel so overwhelmed and depressed already and this was supposed to make me feel better! :cry:

look up the sugar buster diet - that will help and give you ideas.

Don't worry about the feelings. When I made the first break from processed/white flour and sugar, I felt depressed and angry with everyone.

After 30 days, you will feel much better.

I, too, have fibromyalgia. I tried the no yeast/sugar/white flour diet 20 years ago - no results. Also cut out dairy, with no results. But that was me.

What finally helped me with fibromyalgia - and I was miserable with pain from it, on the brink of having to quit my job, quite literally doing nothing but laying around the house on weekends - was a cheap, old anti-depressant, Elavil. Within one week I went from hardly able to move or sleep from pain to almost my old self. I tell people that my bad days after starting on the Elavil are like my GOOD days were before I started it. It is the one drug I will never give up! It gave me back my life. However, I know others who have tried it without success.

Acidopholus is to promote the growth of "good" bacteria in your system. The good bacteria prevent overgrowth of "bad" bacteria, and help to bring and keep yeast growth in your system under control.

I'm curious - What tests did your DR do to detect the yeast overgrowth in your system?

It's tough to have food allergies, especially if you have really bad reactions.

I really hope this diet helps you. I know just how bad fibromyalgia can be.

That can be a very hard diet to get used to. If you have a local library, try to look for cook books for a yeast free diet or a yeast and sugar free diet. There are books out there with recipes and they offer a lot of support.

I wish you the best of luck. I am curious to see what others have to say.

I had a neighbor with a severe yeast problem. She could only mainly eat meat and certain vegetables.
She could tolerate a few whole wheat egg noodles or brown basmatti rice once a day. Brown basmatti has less carbs than white basmatti.

She would make stir frys, lots of meat, veggies and a little rice or noodles.

She would cook herbs in the oil and then add in noodles and rice to help flavor them.

She used whole wheat flour to make gravy instead of white flour or corn starch. It wasn't as smooth a gravy, but it tasted good :D She used it over the rice or noodles.

I had and still have an overgrowth of Candida Albicans. My previous doctor said that she, also, had this and had been diagnosed years before as a chronic complainer, etc, when she knew as a doctor that there was something wrong with her. She finally discovered the yeast problem, and used on me what worked for her, Nystatin. This is the only one she prescribed for me and it worked. Since she married and left the state 10 or so years ago, none of my male doctors believe that I have this since the tests come back mildly positive. And I still sound like I smoked 5 packs of cigarettes a day. At my worst, I sound like Gravel Gertie. Haven't been to a doctor in a long time..but the new one I chose when the old one moved away might agree with me. I hope so. Nystatin is pretty safe I believe, at least for me.

I suspect that you'll find most doctors hate to order the tried and true old drugs, but if you are firm you won't have to be a guinea pig for new, expensive stuff just out.

Also, I was told to avoid processed foods, especially fermented ones, which unfortunately were my favorite foods. Hard cheese, pickles, sour kraut, buttermilk, (okay, this is from my German background) Kefir, yeast breads, vinegary salad dressings, mustards, beer, wine, etc. Most of what makes a meal come alive, that's what I have to avoid if I want to be able to speak on the phone. When I answer it and someone calls me "Sir" then I know it is time to try for some more Nystatin.

google health benefits of organic apple cider vinegar......... start to drink it and you will feel 1000 times better. everyone should drink it no matter what ails you.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll try to address them here.

She didn't do any tests as my list of symptoms was enough for her. There was a reason she chose not use nystantin on me but I don't remember what it was. She chose the diflucan instead.

I've been thinking about this all day long and came to a realization that might play into this. I know exactly when my pain became unbearable. It was spring. I remember feeling so good and pain free when my SIL and DD moved in with us. At that time I always drank instant iced tea with sweet n low for the sweetener. When they moved in they had me start making sweet tea for them using sugar. Of course I started drinking the sweet tea instead of my sugar free. As my pain started to increase I became lazier about cooking and we starting eating a lot of processed foods, fast foods, etc. Some times I will just eat a slice of bread if I can't find anything else easy to grab.

I am excited to see if these dietary changes help. My DH says we all should eat like this so I've decided to have them eat the same foods I do when we share meals. It can't hurt them and they both could use to lose some weight.

This is going to be hard but we can do it. RAH rah! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Oh.. and I did go to the library and picked up some books.

First day was rough. I wasn't able to stick completely with the diet. Cutting out all this sugar is making me hypoglycemic and I'm not feeling well at all. I don't think I can stop cold turkey. I need to ease into it a bit or I'll never survive. I can't even focus my eyes tonight so no quilting :cry:

It just seems weird to me that you have to cut out fruit. I thought they were good for you and a necessary part of your diet in moderation.

On day five of this diet and it stinks. Having problems with the "no white foods". When you are allergic to whole wheat it cuts out everything. Even the oat breads and such still have whole wheat in them. I'm exhausted from reading labels!

And after all this I don't feel a bit better. Actually worse today.

Any ideas for good substitutes for my breads that don't involve baking it myself?
