i need some inspiration, does anyone do dolls, not the wonderful structured ones (tho i would love to see them), but kinda floppy, cross between a sock monkey and a bunny, but a doll, unisex, just because i am using scraps of silk to do them with, somehow i feel as if i am against a brick wall, just need, funky wierd thoughts and things, when i can figure out how to post a photo of mine i will, but i do not think it is the forum, i think it is my computer, it has more opinions than my daughter did at 14, and trust me she had a bunch (she is 30ish and has even more now, lol), and the broken thumb is not helping anything, so right now i am just planning my next fabric attact,
thanks for the hugs regarding the thumb

I made a lot of this doll-I enlarged the pattern to different sizes to use up my scraps and made simple clothes. Silks would make wondefully touchable dolls.

I made some monster dolls sort of like these: http://www.squidoo.com/makeuglydolls

I guess it doesn't like webarchive links,
try copying from http://web.archive.org.... to the end and see if that will work.
It's a basic 2d doll with a head/body piece, with separate legs and arms. The picture is one of these dolls
It's very similar to this one:

Here are some other links that do work:

I used to enjoy making dolls, but kids don't really like them anymore. I finally stopped making them because I couldn't give them away. I dropped them off at the pediatric unit of the hospital where I worked, several a week. They finally told me that they had plenty and would give me a call when they could use more.

I had surgery and was out for 6 weeks, I put my time to good use.

this is the one from the first link that doesn't work. I used fun yarn for hair. Makes things interesting.

when I was making dolls for the pediatric ward, I had a lady say, "why are your dolls all white? you know we have children off off nationalities." So I went out and found other shades to make my dolls.

the dolls i make are not ethnic, they are basically, purple, pink, turquise (sp?), multi colored with charsima (ha, or maybe ham?, they have no form or purpose, just funny worthless items)i am trying to send a photo, they are colors of the rainbow, and kinda goofy too, i will get a friend over this weekend and he can post them for me, as with my quilting, scaves and soaps, it is the color, not the form that i work for, makes for interesting work (mostly lots of corrections) on my bad techniques,

My grandmother made the flip dolls for my girls too. One was the sad/bad doll and one was the happy/good doll. What ever they were feeling they would turn the doll over. They were bed dolls. When I was growing up everyone had a beautifully dressed bed doll on spare bed.

Mom made dolls for craft shows for years until she was unable to due to health issues. Each granddaughter got a raggety ann doll when she was born. Mom is no longer withnus but I recently found some of her dolls which were packed away when she stopped doing crafts and ended up with me when we divided things up. Now each of her great-granddaughters will get one until the dolls run out. They may not get to know her but they will have alittle bit of her talent and love. My sister has asked if I'll start making the raggety anns for the girls so that tradition will get continued, but for Christmas.

Here are some links to monster or ugly dolls-I don't think they are ugly- I made several of these before I stopped. the kids at the hospital seemed to like this type better.
