How many of you know the lyrics to the song? See, I only know a few bars, but when I referred to it in a different post, I decided to look it up. Here you are--

"Auld Lang Syne"

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

I found this on Wikipedia, but don't tell my students.....I NEVER allow them to use it as a source!

I usually don't like that song b/c it makes me sad for some reason. But I absolutely LOVE IT at the end of It's a Wonderful Life!! Makes me cry but happy tears :)

Of course, I can't leave well enough alone....I had to look up the meaning, too. Yeah, I'm such a nerd :-)

So the first part is a rhetorical question about whether it's okay to forget the old times and old friends. The chorus says that for the sake of old times and friends, we'll have a cup (wine, coffee, beer? you choose, I want the last of the eggnog) so that we can sip our drink and remember the old times.

How perfect is it that so many of us chatted for TWO days about games we played as children?

I thought the last sentence in the first stanza was
"And days of Auld Lang Syne", no???

Sorry, Sue, I did too. In fact, it was the only line I was sure of. You know there's a whole lot more to the song. Here's the url that I quoted:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne#Lyrics
But I'm sure there are others.

It would be hilarious if I quoted Wikipedia and got it wrong!
