Since we are having so much fun on the movie topic, I'm curious as to what "fine" artists influence you and your work. Here are mine:

"Old-School":
Michaelangelo
DaVinci
The Pre-Raphaelites (Burne-Jones and Waterhouse in particular)
Van Gough
Walter Crane (art nouveau)
Alphonse Mucha (art nouveau)
Impressionists

20th-century
Tiffany (esp. his stained glass windows!)
Picasso
Dali
Geogia O'Keefe
Alicia Austin
Roger Dean
Jim Fitzpatrick
Frank Frazetta
(I know that a lot of people consider these last 4 "illustrators" - but I don't, )

I wouldn't say that I'm "influenced" by artists, but being nearsighted, I must say that the impressionist style resonates with me. It's just what I see without my glasses.

Does anybody know if (some of) the impressionists really were nearsighted?

I don't know if they were nearsighted but a lot of them had mental problems. Van Gogh especially. It was probably from mixing their own paints. The cadmium used in a lot of paints is very hazardous and clove oil in large amounts can be too. I love Van Gogh's work though and also Monet's. Picasso---not so much. LOL
John Singer Sargent was an absolutely phenomenal portrait artist and I loved studying his work. He's probably my favorite.

Monet had cataracts later in life so some of his work was affected. He had eye surgery and painted over some of his paintings to correct the color.

This is my brother Matthew, so I am biased, but he is a wonderful artist. He has pieces in both MOMAs (CA and NY), the Art Museum of Dallas, and a museum in Wichita, among other places. If you google him, you can probably find the most recent show in Zurich.

non-related favorites include:
Edward Hopper,
Gustav Klimt
Ewa Wall (Hill country Texas artist)
Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Keith Haring
