Default FBI warns of Internet Blackout July 9th

http://www.theage.com.au/digital-lif...#ixzz1qW2sYEy8

Seems international hackers have done a ghost click ad scam that will disable some computers soon. FBI has a site to go to in order to find out if your machine is infected or not: www.dcwg.org

That doesn't sound legit to me. The FBI has their own site www.fbi.gov where they have tons of internet scams and warnings listed. The above one is not listed. I wouldn't risk going to that site.

The warning and website are in the "news" part of the web - it came up on my home page via the news media I receive.

PS it isn't a SCAM it is facts on hacking that has occurred and what the consequences can be.

When I googled "Internet Blackout July 9th," none of the sites that came up appear to be legitimate news sites. Many are from Australia, and why the FBI would be involved with that makes no sense.

The Denver Post this morning had an aritical about the problem. It states the FBI is encouraging Internet users to visit a website run by its Security Partner, dcwg.org. It will inform you whether your computer is infected and explain how to fix the problem.

This article is written about in our newspaper this morning. It seems to have infected ONLY 577,000 computers that use Microsoft. The way the article reads is that it does not affect MAC's (apple computers). If you use microsoft, you'd maybe perhaps go to the site that will tell you if yours is infected.

The article was in the newspaper today too. First I had heard of it. I will have to check it out. I'd go nuts without my internet and ability to get to this board.

When I read your warning, I went to an Australian Government site and diagnosed OK. Lots of information about the problem in different languages for each country. Many thanks.
