My 7 pound Chihuahua is Cookie in my avatar. She gets a piece of Mylo chicken strip every morning, as is plain as day she is not overweight. Vet. said she is perfect weight for her lean body.
This is a lean, mean Cookie.

Dogs do not really absorb the vitamins and minerals from vegetables and fruit. Dog food manufacturers have jumped aboard publicizing vegetables in dog food since us humans think you have to be healthier eating vegetables. It is a selling ploy for dog food. Dogs are carnivores. Rice, potatoes, and corn are fillers for dog food. In the wild dogs don't really eat carbs.

I feed my dog turkey weiners.. she was an orphan and wouldn't eat any food that I got for her, since I didn't know what the original owners fed her, so I thought instead of wasting my money on dog food, I would get her something that I knew she would eat, and for the money it all comes out about the same..I was worried that she might get too fat, but she has stayed the same size..

I have a corgi who was suffering with terrible skin problems and beginning to stiffen in all his joints so I took him off the supermarket diet and went all natural. There is a vet here in Australia who has a very informative website.Dr Bruce Syme - Vets all natural. I began to change Akkeems diet 2 yrs ago when local vets told me he was not going to be with us much longer, he is now fit and active with clear skin and a beautiful coat, 14 yrs young.

Thanks for posting that. That's what I was going to say, get her thyroid checked.
having basenjis, I am well aware of the signs)

There are many who feed the dogs the RAW diet. I don't, but I 'think' they supplement with a good all around multi vitamin for dogs

Also we changed their dog food to a lower fat content feed. So far Chili has lost 25 lbs. in 3 months. And her hair and skin have dramatically improved.

We supplement their diet with knuckle bones and marrow bones. Our vet says their teeth are in excellent shape little or no tartar build up.
