I have Windows Security Essentials as my virus protection on my computer. I just clicked on a live blog link when up pops this notice that I have critical virus on my computer and that my computer is infected. It says to click on start to remove them. It is titled Windows Security Alert.

What do I do? Is it legitimate and how do I know for sure. I have never had this happen.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Do not click on it. Close the page you are on. It's most likely malware and you do not want it.

That has been happening to me too! I had to go into Task Master to get rid of it. The others are right, don't click on it, it will not go away.

Everytime you click on something like that, you are adding more malware. I did that and I had so much malware my pc wouldn't even boot up. I had to buy a new one.

I agree with everyone - do not click on it - they may try and sell you something to fix it - it is a scam!!!

Click "Ctrl Alt Delete" and get out of it asap or your computer will get infected. I know this from experience!

Thanks for all your help! I shut my computer down and rebooted it like you suggested. The alert went away and Microsoft Security Essential is making a full scan of my computer.

These pop ups are so intimidating when you see them. They make it look so close to windows but something isn't quite right about them. I am not to sure sometimes how to tell if they are legit and it makes me very leery to trust them. I know I did the right thing and want to say THANKS for your help! :D :D

Your virus protection *should* be working quietly in the background, usually not advising each time like this. If you can find out how within your own program, be sure your virus protection is set to update automatically, so you won't have to constantly be worrying about a window asking to do it.

Whenever anything like this pops up, do just like you did, reboot and run a full system virus scan. That way if it is valid problem, your program will take care of it. If it is a scam, no harm will be done :D:D:D
