Just returned from Miami where my husband had a triple bypass and valve repair. He's now supposed to do the low sodium/low cholesterol diet. There are so many on-line sites with information about diet, personality change, etc. Any proven sites from those of you have gone through this? On a humorous note, the sheet from the hospital had a check off of what he could do. Bathing, mild exercise, lifting, etc. were checked. The vacuum category was left unchecked! Must have been a man who did this!!

My husband had bypass surgery 12 years ago. We just read the lables on everything. Shopping takes longer at first. Wishing him a speedy recovery!!

I don't know a specific site for that but I have a suggestion for you.
Check out your local hospitals to see if they offer classes for you both. Most hospitals have them and they are wonderful to learn new ways of living after heart surgery.
I have found the Mayo Clinic's website really informative for many things too.

I agree with Sue, the hospital should have programs he can attend. Anything events he can attend to learn as much about how to live after a bypass will help him tremendously.

Had mine 3yrs ago at the age of 38. My heart mds gave me wonderful info. Also check with your local health dept. My cardiologist also sent me to visit a diatetion and has a healthy hearts support group that meets monthly. If your husband has to go to cardiac rehab, they helped me alot. And of course the American Heart Association is good. Good luck. My husband and I are both nurses and still had a hard time at 1st. Almost forgot our insurance company sent some good info too. Here is a hint: Most salt is added by habbit. Take the salt out of the salt shaker, its better if its not see through like glass, and replace it with rice. You get the sound and feel of shaking salt, but no salt. :) Worked for my uncle as long as he was home. When he went out things became too salty and he started cutting back even more. He never knew about the rice. :)

DH had double bypass surgery 15 years ago. As part of his out-patient care he had to attend cardiac rehab classes at the hospital. It was 6 weeks long and the spouse was supposed to attend as many as possible. We learned a lot about the future.
At his last check up his cardiologist said he was his (the doctor's) best patient. BTW DH was 47 years old at the time of surgery.

Thank you for the replies. We have two hospitals within 30 miles. I wouldn't have thought to check there for classes. He doesn't have to attend rehab, so it's up to us to be proactive.
