Has anyone had their teeth whitened by the dentist? I am scheduled to have mine done in 2 weeks. I've had to get up the nerve to do so as I have read posts on the internet that it can be painful. My dentist says that it used to be a little painful but since I will be brushing with a desensitizer tooth paste for the next two weeks that will help. My fingers are crossed!

I had mine whitened about 5 yrs. ago & I don't remember pain. I guess it may have to do with if your teeth are overly sensitive to begin with.

my [ex] boyfriend had his whitened. there were some inconveniences not mentioned prior to the procedure. just about everything you eat in the beginning had to be 'white'. we had to run to the deli for some chicken and turkey slices to eat on the white bread :) best wishes.

DH was given a 'kit' by our dentist to take home and do himself. That was about 6 years ago. I remember it costing just over 150.00 and being upset as his already white teeth got to be whiter, while my off white/slight yellow stayed the same as we could not afford for both of us to have this done (let alone him have it done-no insurance covers the stuff). Dentist sold it to him without my knowledge and DH does what the drs tell him to. The argument lasted about 4 days. He has not done this since. Whitening did not last. With meds he is now on, his teeth are now slightly discolored. We changed dentists.

I had a tooth whitening system from my dentist. He made impressions of my teeth, top and bottom. He made me dental trays. The system had cartridges of "stuff" I squeezed into the trays each night and slept with. The entire system cost $600.00. Over the coarse of six weeks my teeth looked good, however I developed a painful sensitivity in my teeth. It was worth it, I would do it again if I could.
