I actually love the idea! I wanted to do this at my daughters baby shower, but she couldnt wait to tell friends/family that its a girl! I have been to one of these showers and the hosts were so creative. Really a lot of fun! They revealed the babies gender by wrapping a giant box with a large ribbon that was filled with blue helium balloons. When the bow was untied, the balloons escaped into the air. They got great pictures. Of course, since no one knew if it was a boy or a girl, gifts were all neutral. I guess this can either be a pro (can be used for later babies without worrying about color) or a con (no cute clothes just for a boy/girl).

I prefer the wondering and waiting. We all had to wait until my children made their debut into the world to found out if they were a boy or girl.

Ha! I had to click on this to see what you meant by it too! Now-is that in lieu of the baby showe or in addition to it? Looks like maybe just an excuse to gift grab to me.

The next trend....it replaces the obnoxious "couples showers" for weddings! Just my 2 cents. We have to be entertained to attend showers.

I agree I entered this conversation wondering where it would go!!! So, in lieu of a regular baby shower, gender reveal party! That's cute. I still prefer not knowing what someone's going to have, rather than spoiling the surprise. I waited for 2 of the 3 newborns that I had.

Some people like a party and will use any excuse to have one even if gifts are not involved. I have an aunt that cooks like a fiend and invites all her friends to dinner parties for every "holiday". She will even do themes like National Ice Cream Day.

Oh, it is a shower. I found out about this big reveal theme from a catering blog. The cupcake baker has been given the gender-color to use in the filling as a "tip" ....so an outsider knows the surprise reveal before the family and friends who attend the shower. I assume pink or blue filling but I could be wrong in assuming that!
