Does anyone have a suggestion as to the removal of the "brown" mineral deposits that makes itself at home around toilet bowls and sink drains.

I'm speaking of things other than the old pumice stone which eventually takes off the glaze on the porceline. A friend mentioned success with cucumber juice (taking the end of the cucumber and placing it over the stain. With the price of cucumbers in my area now at $1.50 each, I'll probably try to grow some first!

Try C.L.R. Calcuim, Lime , Rust. It works pretty good on those stains, you should be able to find it at Walmart, ACE Home Depot, Lowe's etc. Also, we used to use something from Amway , years ago when we had a well.

I use Long's Toilet Ring Remover. It is very, very, very caustic! I use it about once a year. I purchase it from Longs Preferred Products,Inc. I has been the only thing I have found that will work in our water. I use Iron Out to get the stains out of my clothes. I get it at WalMart in the plumbing section. It will whiten the whites but changes colors on some of the colored pieces. Iron Out says it will take the stains out of bathroom fixtures. I have not tried it yet but will next time I need to super clean the fixtures.

We have the same problem. The only thing that works for me is Wink. I buy it at Walmart (in brown bottle). Works like a charm.

Thanks for the tip. I know toooooo well the kind of stains being discussed here. It's so bad in my area that even pumice won't cut it...used house....used toilet. Ach!

Yes, someone wrecked the toilet finish with pumice in my "double-wide" before I got it. Sinks, etc have ancient deposits of lime, etc. Tried everything I know of including CLR. Worried, with the Wink or Long's and such, that they will destroy the "beneficials" in my septic system. I Rid-X every month, but will the really harsh stuff be too much?

I'm not an expert but I've been using Wink every week for the last 13 years and we have never had a problem with our septic.
