shipping on Amazon has gone up? It used to be when you bought direct from Amazon or one of their dealers you generally paid $3.95 for shipping on books. I've notice the last few weeks that direct from Amazon is still $3.95 but from their dealers its gone up to $5.90 or more. That much increase doesn't justify buying from them unless they're giving it away. The price is just as much or more than I could buy it at a book store. With so many places offering free shipping this doesn't make sense.

And gas, groceries, taxes, clothing, fabric and everything else that we can't seem to avoid.

You can get 'free shipping' on Amazon for one year by paying $79. I know that the $79 does not seem like you're getting free shipping. It is an indulgence to spend that money, but once you do, you can snag anything that catches your eye on there without ever needing to think about the shipping cost. You need to order maybe a dozen times throughout a year for it to pay off. With the burden of the shipping cost removed, you'll be surprised at how often you order in that year. It's called "Amazon Prime"

I never pay shipping from Amazon, I just accumulate items in my shopping cart (which saves) until I have enough to qualify for free shipping. It's not very much to begin with, like $35 to get free shipping?

on the other hand, when a third party seller on Amazon ships your book, they only get about $2.64. On a heavy book it costs more than that. So sellers will be happy the fee has gone up.
However, I just checked AMazon, if you were buying a used book from a 3P seller, it is still $3.99 shipping.

The last time I ordered it was $25 to get free shipping. It doesn't take much to get to $25!

It's a good thing I love to stay at home and quilt with just the price of gas going and going up and up!
