No, I don't mean a mission to get fabric or supplies!

Rather, a church or medical mission trip.

Having just returned from a trip to Nicaragua with my three teenagers and 16 other people from church, I was just wondering if anyone else on the forum has ever been "out on mission".

Yep, Mexico multiple times and Paraguay once. We do vision clinics distributing used eye glasses and dental clinics, too.

Take a look at the free sharing sites on Shutterfly.com as a great place to share your pics. Can't wait to see them!

Our church did a vision trip to Mexico about three years ago. I would have gone on that but the kids were too young yet.

I'm still processing all the information that I learned while in Nicaragua. So I'll post more when I have it all sorted out in my mind, and when I download the pictures from my camera.

We were running a kids camp, taking children from the dump in Granada and giving them three days of regular meals and normal childhood play; games, a few English lessons, music, a Bible lesson, swimming, and just plain old-fashioned love and attention.

Apparently $5 / day working in the sugar cane fields is considered a "good" wage; the folks working in the dump, digging for recyclable plastic and metal might get $1 every day or every other day.

I'm having a good deal of trouble reconciling the fact that I can blow, on a mediocre lunch, the entire daily wage of someone working MUCH harder than I do.

Yes, to Mexico. But only once for me. My DH and kids have all been on multiple mission trips, mostly to Mexico and Romania.
I had a wonderful experience. Went with several adults and college students and we worked on fixing up a "compound"/ home of one of our missionaries where the high schools kids base their trips.
I usually have to stay home and work, or care for the dogs or such. I hope to go to Romania either next summer or the summer after. I will have to be able to quit work first though.
