I'm an idiot. I can't believe I did this. I forgot to subtract our $1100. house payment from the checkbook! I was so excited that we had extra money this time that I paid some bills that could have waited. So now everything is bouncing. When the dust clears there will be 10 $20 overcharge fees! Not a darn thing I can do about it either. I feel so stupid and my DH is VERY mad at me.

Don't worry. I've done the same thing. Hated doing that. Now we have a nice saving account that will take care of "dumb" things that I do.
Just chalk it up to experience and do like I do....put a Post-It note on your desk where you do your bills. On it, write...DEDUCT MONEY FROM ACCOUNT!!
It works, I know!!

Have you tried calling your bank? Once in a while they will take pity on one.

If you've had a good record in the past and are a long term customer, sometimes they will give a person a break.

It's always worth an ask.

I didn't do that but I forgot to pay the house taxes once. They send them out in September and they are not due until Jan. 31st. We had the money to pay them, but I didn't want to do it too early. Was going to wait until about the middle of January. About Feb. 8th, I thought about it. Had a stiff penalty fee to pay because I was late.

I think bear's suggestion is a good one. It's worth a try.

GAH! We did that sort of thing once...except we had our mortgage on auto pay, then DH wrote a check to make sure the payment was on time. So, taken out x2 and not accounted for.

The good thing though: when we got the bounced check notice it was because someone had stolen our bankcard info and tried to run a charge of $1k+ from CHINA! They only got us for about $300, and the bank covered it/investigated. Had we not made the error, it would have been even worse.

One time through auto bill-pay I accidentally paid all of my bills (all the BIG ones) twice. It was this time last year, in fact! Yuck!!
