This was a monster storm! More than half of our state is still without electric, cable or phone. I'm typing this at work (the town I work in only lost power for a short time). We lost power at 10:00 am yesterday and it's predicted to be out for a few days. My condo is completely electric (no gas stove) so we can't do a thing ....already had to toss everything in my fridge and freezer.

I'm tired of living like a pioneer - I want my electricity back!!

I'm just here to whine for a minute. I know there are MANY people who are worse off than we are and I send my sympathies out to them also.

I feel your pain. We had no electricity for 15 days after a 2009 ice storm. But even though we were prepared Irene was a breeze for us. My Neice in Easton MA is still out too. also Mansfield, MA. Good luck to you.

I had to go without electricity for 14 days one summer because of "Hurricane Elvis" which ended up being 110mph straight line winds as a front was rolling through town. It destroyed a lot of stuff and it really looked like a hurricane came through. It was okay for the first week because as things were thawing out we all had one hell of a block party every night cooking up everything we had in our freezers. My neighbor had a in ground pool so we had it at his house, and I did all of the cooking and bartending. But when the food ran out the fun was over so to speak then we were on survival mode, going out to eat and hanging out by the pool. Lucky for us I had plenty of alcohol to make Long Island Teas and my neighbor with the pool had a generator so his house was fully functional including the ice maker in his freezer!

Hang in there it will be back to normal before you know it!

During Katrina and Rita 1/2 of our apartment complex was without electricity - guess which half I live in? 10 days without and cold showers. We did have a propane gas stove so we could still cook. The transformer on our side blew out and had to be replaced. Didn't think I could do it either but 2 years later have great stories to tell.

We lost electric, cable, & cell phone 9:00p.m. Sat. Fortunately, got electric back Sunday afternoon. Good luck to you. I know they brought crews in from across the state - Pittsburgh - to help us.

Sorry to hear your electricity is out and may be out for awhile. There isn't a whole lot you can do without it. Hope everything is back up and running soon!
