We have a great time trying outfox the squirrels in our yard. DH raised the guard on the bird feeder so they can't jump up and climb the metal pole. If you can afford it, get some cracked corn and feed them, and they will lose their appetite for your flowers.

I don't use a bird feeder any more. I put plants in my gardens that feed them. Most states have websites that suggest plants & bushes that the birds in our regions depend on for food.

Wasn't so funny when they are the lead pipe vents in the roof. Had to have them fixed and a cage put over the pipes to prevent damage in the future. No wonder they are so crazy.

I have inventive squirrels - they hang upside down and get into the bird feeders. Sometimes they accidently get hit by at 17g shell and hawks cart them off.
The best yet was a young deer (white tail) when had his up eating seed from the bird feeders even tho DH had spread out some corn for him
We put a plastic owl out and movehim daily around the flowers - and no more animals eating my plants !
Wild life abounds here - turkey and their chicks as well - but the hawk and vultures keep the nasties (rats, mice and snakes) curtailed and clean up the the other rodent messes (squirrels)
Mother nature at her best !

When you move into the animals domain, you have to expect them to come and visit. You might not like them having their dinner at your expense but they were there first and you are the intruder.
We had a plastic lifesize cat we put in our strawberry patch and the garden and moved it,looked just like our real one so that helped, I liked the use of the owl. A good idea.
