I have an embroidery machine and would like to put names on shirts and designs. How would I charge? Thanks for your help.

The going rate used to be $1 per 1,000 stitches + $0.25 per thread color change, with a $5.00 minimum
If someone wants you to do a bunch of something with different names, i make them send me an email with the names so I don't have to type them in and possibly have a typo.

HMMM, now I'm trying to figure out what the typo was in the OP. ;-)

Thank you - I was trying to figure out even where to start to figure out how to price work for a friend. She wants to pay, but I had no idea where to begin. It has 4 large corner motifs of roses (5 colors each, 1 hour work each), framing 2 center sections (looks like one column of words) that I had to digitize (15 minutes each) and sew out (also 15 minutes each.) I don't like to do this type of work but she really wanted to do an Anniversary wall piece for her friend and she wants to pay.

Digitizing requires some expertise, so I would add in an hourly charge JUST for the digitizing time. Maybe $20 to $40 per hour?

Okay, just added up the stitches and thread changes. Using the above formula, and not charging for thread or digitizing it adds up to $65! I had no idea. I'm not comfortable charging that much to a friend. I think from now on, I need to tell any that wants me to whip something that the price is $1 per 1,000 stitches + $0.25 per thread color change, with a $5.00 minimum. That way I won't get stuck with an overload of work. Most times I don't mind, but sometimes it gets to be a bit much. My fault - I need to learn the word NO. My original suggestion to her was for me to embroider in inside sentiment and them have her do a crazy quilt around as a frame border.
