I currently have a full time job I'm happy with (pretty much). Pay and benefits are good, but alot of turnover in personel of late. I've been here for 6 years and recently was given new work assignments. They are in an area I was hoping to go some day but the lady I wanted to work with is now gone.

There is a new large scale resort and spa coming into our area. I've been watching the project develop from afar for some time now. I even went up and inquired as to jobs and the application process.

Am I nuts for thinking of a career change. I might even have the chance to do some after hours accounting work for them while keeping my current position. He took my contact information. I'm trying to figure out if I should submit a letter of inquiry and a resume.

I don't want to lose a good opportunity because I hesitated. I know sending a letter is a no hurt-no harm. But I feel guilty about doing it.

Ok, it's that self-doubt thing. I don't know what to do.

My 2 cents worth - go for it. Get all the facts, study them and decide what is best for you. You will wonder later if you do not check it out. You do not want to belong to the "wish I hadda club". Check it out and you will know if it is for you. Ruth

Sounds good... just my 2 cents... make sure that this new resort will be around long enough for you to be able to keep your job. With the economy this way, who knows if anyone will even go. If you are stable with your job now, might not be worth the change.

It's an established 36 hole golf course. The investment firm already has a resort in Europe and own a TV station there. The first condo for $500,000 has already been sold.

It will still be there so be sure and think it over. With the economy screwed up I wouldn't change unless I had to. I am sure you have benefits so that's another thing to consider.

I would check it out, what have you got to loose. If you could work do acctg part for awhile to see how they operate, treat their employees, benefits, etc. you'd have an easier time making a decision if you'd want to work there fulltime.
No need to feel guilty, it's not like you're being disloyal to your employer.

If you worked there part time in the evenings, you would find out if you liked working for them, but would it turn into a full time job if they new you could do it all on a part time schedule? Another thought, how would your full time employer feel about you working another constant part time job?

Do you have any vacation time coming at your current job.What might be possible,is to take vacation time check out the new place explore all the possibilites,if you decide you don't think it is for you, you still have your current job,nothing lost

Thank you, I just came from a department meeting with a consultant about setting up a new project within the office. I found it to be a timely discussion for me personally. I find I need to ask just what my future role is here and whether there are some assumations made about me and my position. Lots to think about.
