I was reading this....my potatoes are in my garden not a trash can...but what I find interesting and I did not know was you need to put dirt around the plant during growing season as it grows you need to keep adding dirt.

Yep, they grow up not down (like carrots) in the soil. The better you 'bank' them the better the potato....

What a great idea! Love that it saves space and you get a bigger crop :D:D:D

That is where I get mine, also. We used to grow our own potatoes and onions. Sat down to figure the cost of doing that and decided it was to costly. We can buy potatoes and onions a lot cheaper.

I have a 1/4 acre garden. We put out potatoes every year. Get potatoes that have lots of 'eyes'. I cut them apart so there is one 'eye' per piece. Plant shallow and cover as you go is the directions from DH. Plant so the 'eye' is up towards the sky. Plant about 6 inches apart. DH puts a little 'mound' of dirt along the row with the potatoes 6 inches apart. We've planted baby reds, and white potatoes. Don't care for the taste of yukon gold. You'll notice little 'flowers'. That's a good sign. Wherever there is a flower you should have a spud. PS He plants by the Farmer's Almanac. Cheryl
