Default How is the Royal Baby Named?

Do they have to choose from family names? Maybe in the UK George is a common name for babies but it's not in the US. I don't see Jason, Brendan, names like that being used.

They pick family names, former Kings , Queens and then names of those they want to favor in future if necessary. Like naming your child after Great Aunt Gertie who is rich!

In addition to the family connections, the name George is actually the 12th most popular boy's name in England at this time.
There have been six King George's. George is Williams middle name. Alexander is a reference to a former King of Scotland (where Will and Kate met), and also a reference to the Queen's middle name Alexandra. Then there is Louis, in reference to Charles' beloved uncle.

and in this case ...

George ... after the Queen's Father, King George VI; also one of Prince Charles' names
.....Alexander ... after Great Grandma ... Queen Elizabeth's full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary
..........Louis ... one of William's names (William Arthur Philip Louis); plus after Louis Mountbatten who was assassinated in 1979 by the IRA; Prince Philip's Uncle plus a distant cousin to the Queen; and Charles' most favoured Great Uncle

Speculation had been that there would be a link to Diana's family ... perhaps Spencer, but looks like not

I hope they give him the name Spencer in honor of his beautiful maternal grandmother.

Since Harry's name is actually Henry, Spencer would be a good nick name.

I really don't think they need to favour anyone in the future, certainly not Great Aunt anyone!! Tradition is the key in England. I just hope they will be left to go their own way and not have everyone telling them how to live . The Lord forbid they would name the child after some pop or film star.
