My grandson this weekend told me that his mother has an iron but she never uses it like me. LOL

I only use my iron nowadays to make quilts.

Reading this makes me think of my son's friend. Came to stay the weekend. Saturday I cooked spaghetti, Sunday veggies including green beans. He asked his mother why didn't they eat exotic food like that at home.

Jingle you are right! My DIL does not iron anything. I have seen my son in some pretty wrinkly shirts. Whenever there is a reason he needs to look really nice, he will stop over here to use my iron. I couldn't imagine going to work like that. They both hold management level jobs. I've mastered the art of biting my tongue!

When I think about the fact that I haven't used my iron for anything other than quilting for years, I guess that makes sense! Too funny though. Reminds me of all the other things kids don't know about these days.....like phone booths.

I've had younger women look at me when I say something about buying a new iron like I'm crazy. I had one say "You iron?" When I said that I mostly use it for quilting but I do iron pillowcases and clothes if they need it. She said "I never iron. I just put it back in the dryer or send it to the cleaners".

It is sad what kids aren't being taught these days. They need some grandparents in their lives! I knew a single mom whose little girl didn't know what a bride was. They went to see someone staying in a hotel, and ran into a wedding party. The little girl, about 5 years old, acted out to the bride because a) she's a brat, and b) she thought the big white dress and veil meant the lady was a princess. So sad.

Ignorant is not a bad word. It merely means "unknowledgeable". So if the parents don't teach them what an iron is then they are ignorant of irons.

We are all ignorant of some things.

My son doesn't own an iron or board (although they used to have both--think when they move they just donate stuff to the Goodwill!). He did mention it several months ago, so they will get one for birthdays or Christmas. This is the couple that registered for wedding but put lots of weird stuff on it and so didn't get basics. I've since "filled in" from the thrift store for the. Doubt if my grandson's really aware of what an iron does.

But also must call myself out too--when my daughter was 3yrs old, I was in grad school and taking a counseling testing class so we all had to give IQ tests to several people of different ages. The Stanford-Binet test uses several little "game piece" items with younger kids. When I asked what the iron was, my daughter quickly said a sewing machine! When I asked her to explain why she said that, she said it's because I use it when I sew! So, obviously I don't iron clothing much!

I must admit, my iron only gets used for my quilting. I use my dryer to fluff out wrinkles on our clothes. I will occasionally press wrinkles out of clothes if the dryer can't do it. haha
