My conscience won't let me sew - ughhh. It's 12:43AM- My husband works nights so he should be home soon. All my kids are asleep in there beds BUT I also have had my dad staying here for hmmm 4 5 6 months now (on the couch) and now my Uncle is here to (coule of weeks) on my other couch. I am wide awake. I can't figure out this radio. I was thinking well if I turn on the radio it might drown out the sound of my sewing machine. I can't get it to work. Then I was thinking well it's my house I can do what I want. I started sewing, but they are like 3 foot strips, so it's constant noise. I got thru 1 then when I started the other one I started feeling bad. What if I am bothering their sleep- I hate this lol I just want to sew- kids are all tucked away- this isn't fair. My dad and Uncle are suppose to be moving in a couple of weeks then I get my house back. Well thanks for letting me vent.

Vent on! I can't sleep right now either, so I guess we're both up. I'd say sew long and sew hard - maybe they'll move out sooner. :)

You have my sympathy...we offered shelter to daughter, son-in-law, toddler granddaughter and then newborn grandson for 10 months following a their loss of job out of state, loss of health insurance in the midst of a difficult pregnancy, baby being born prematurely, etc. My sewing room was turned into a nursery. They are back on their feet with a job, in a new home and I got my sewing room back this summer. I wouldn't have changed anything we did to help out our family during this difficult economy ... but losing your control of your house, and to some extent your life, can be trying. And sewing is your time alone to try to capture some of that back. Frankly, I've found that men, if they are tired, usually sleep through most anything. I'd try sewing away with some soft music in the background and then smile sweetly in the morning and say, "I hope my sewing didn't keep you awake last night. I really got a lot accomplished." It will probably be fine.

I agree with Eddie, keep on sewing!! :D I am up also, but thankfully we don't have anyone living with us right now. Hang on, things will get better.

I, too, am up - thankfully no one 'extra' is in our home at the moment - even though we have certainly had our share!! :) Maybe if you took your machine into your bedroom while they are there??? I, too, would feel guilty of sewing with them right there... yes, it's your house, but they are guests??? It'd be a hard thing to do for me. Are your kids old enough to go to school so you could sew during the day - or do you work? You'll do what is best for all...

Maybe all your house guests should be issued with ear plugs when they arrive? And always say 'well you're more than welcome to stay BUT I must warn you now, there WILL be sewing machine action at odd hours!'

I say it's your house, you're doing a great kindness to put them up so you sew girl! BUT I must admit, that if it was me, I'd feel the same as you - I'm very good at telling other ppl to stand up for their rights but not good at doing it myself!

If it was me, I would sew away and then ask them in the morning if they heard you...chances are they are sleeping right through it!!!
It is awesome you are thinking of them, and if it was only for a week or two, that would be one thing. Month after month is another

Seems there are lots of us up in the early hours of the morning. I can't sew cause I am not at my home, still at friends house(long story) waiting for hubby's next project in saint Mary's to start. I just want to go home so I can sew!!!!

I agree with Amma - you can decide whether they are company or family. If they are company, remember Ben Franklin said "Fish and company both stink after a few days" - and if they are family, expect them to understand or go elsewhere.
