I have an HQ, and got it for under 10K. Gotta watch for sales and specials!

Check the second hand market. Talk to quilt shops, sewing machine repair shops, people in your local quilt guild, and often times your local sewing machine dealers will have trade-ins. For Christmas, my DH bought me a second-hand midarm with frame for $400. It has a 9" harp and a shelf with laser stylus for pantos.

Isn't wanting the same as "Gotta have it!!!"

I say, go for it. Just try out a couple before you decide on one.

NEVER buy before you try!!!!

I am happy with my Grace Frame and Mid-Arm. It does a great job and much more economical. Good luck in your search.
