My son's girlfriend will be leaving on May 1st for Houston, TX for a 4 week training course for her new flight attendant position. Do any of you have ideas for a neat, useful gift for her? I would love suggestions from natives who can give insight to places to go or avoid in the area as well. Thanks for your help.

How about a jewelry or cosmetic roll? Maybe a nice professional looking tote would be appreciated, too. I think that there are free patterns available for these.

Does she have a portable hobby? Maybe a tote for it to take on trips. If she doesn't have one maybe you could gift her and include a beginning 'kit'. My son and DIL are pilots and he takes books on his travels and she takes her knitting.

I've made many, many passport holders.

You could make shoe bags or a curling iron bag.

With all the traveling she will be doing, she surely could use:

tote bags, cosmetic bags, toiletry bags, jewely roll, shoe protector bags, curling iron protector (make it using a potholder...easy).

She might also like a fabric covered address book, or journal. How about a paperback book holder, a kindle holder, a carrying case for an ipod, or an ipad?

Also, she might like a small purse that has a strap that is long enough to go across her body (hands free), especially when she is running to catch her plane and is dragging her suitcase.

There are probably more ideas, but that is all I can think of off the top of my head. She is a lucky lady to have you wanting to make her things.

Think small, I see others have posted some great suggestions. I've noticed the stewardesses walking through the airport with very small carry ons, frequently even smaller than some regular passangers get through so thier storage spaces shared by the rest of the crew are likely very small.

Right now she is just going for her 4 week training. We are not sure where she will end up. Thanks so much for the response!
