Thru the years I've kind of exhausted my various options for annual Grandma Camp. Each summer for a couple of weeks the grandchildren descend. It takes a little time to get up to their speeeeeed! Get there though, and love it! (And it's awful when they leave :( ) ANYWAY, Do any of you have some interesting ideas, which would apply in any part of the Country (USA!), or even specific ideas within my State, which is Oklahoma. Indoor, outdoor, you name it. I'd love some new suggestions! They range from six years to fifteen years. ALL help would be appreciated!

One year at school, I brought out all my 4 inch squares, let the kids pick which 2 to sew together, I did the sewing (they were 8-11) and then they kept going until each had made a row. Then they decided how to put the rows together, then we tied it and donated it to our local children's hospital. For the backing we used a white sheet. Each child traced his or her hands and colored them and wrote a note. It really turned out cute.

Make cookies, rice krispie treats, homemade noodles. those were all things I loved to do with my grandma and now let even the little grandkids help. Youngest, oops, she now has a sister a week old, granddaughter was 19 months old when she helped roll out noodles. Even though her mother said that she didn't like noodles she ate them because she made them. ANYTHING is fun at grandma's house.

Once, when the older ones were younger we did melt (in the microwave, me handling the hot stuff of course) some white chocolate, and stirred in those little pretzel sticks, those skinny short ones). They were so proud of themselves...because they really are tasty. I forgot ALL about that easy 'recipe.' I had sent home a KID'S recipe book, and when they did get home, their mom did let them get more involved in making their own easy snacks, etc. I REALLY do have memory trouble, thanks for the good memory-jog!

How about going to play miniature golf? Or if it is too hot or rainy outside, pop some popcorn and watch a movie? Check your local library for any kid programs they have going on for the summer. Another thing to do is take out the crayons or markers and coloring books and have a ball.

Where are you in Oklahoma? I loved Tallequah when I was there. The Cherokee history was very interesting. Lake Ten Killer was nice too. Is it too late for the Stillwater Strawberry Festival? And fishing! We did a lot of fishing.

I will be watching here as well, for my grandkids consider summer not complete without extended time spent at our place (without parents thank you very much!). We live in a rural setting, so need to make all our own fun.

My DH makes longbows, and a lot of time is spent in archery.
We make quilts.
I make a big pot of play-doh. The kids break off blobs, add colouring and make things.
We had a home spa day with cucumbers on eyes, avocado face masks, manicures and pedicures.
Boating and swimming in the lake.
Fishing.
The kids love it when we have work to do - for instance last year we were building a rock wall and they had a ball sorting and washing rocks.

No wonder their visits are exhausting!

Sounds like too much fun!! 4 of my grandkids live in the same town as me, and since all the adults are full time employed, I only get them for overnights on weekends. The other grandson lives in NC, and only 2, so no visits from him by himself yet. The local kids and DH and I have a great time together. Usually popcorn, movies, hot dogs, chips, etc. Sometimes we make dessert...cookies, cupcakes.

What about letting the decorate their own t- shirts ? Either with crayons or fabric paint . Even the older ones should like that :thumbup:
