I don't know the type or brand of wool. It was a beautiful purple swing style coat and I loved it, Made me feel elegant when I wore it. Just said 100% wool and dryclean only. I have no idea why it linted so bad. From now on, I plan to start with the bucket and plunger for the first wash. My washer never even made it to the first spin on the wash cycle. I still am enthralled with the wool felting and yarn felting and the process. I just will be more careful in the future.

Thanks for telling us your sad story. I've been savingmoth-eaten sweaters to felt. I guess I won't use my washer! I'll try the bucket method and put them in the dryer!

I put my garment to be felted in an old pillowcase when washing. This helps contain the loose fibers and fuzz. I also dry my garment in the same pillowcase on a hot setting. When felting some wool garments, it's amazing how much fuzz is trapped in the pillowcase.

Wish I had known this the first time I tried felting a wool sweater. I too ended up having to call a repair man to clean out the pump. It was completely plugged up with lint.
