That's what I've done so far. Downloaded a ton of free Kindle books to my Mac.This winter it can snow....who cares? my K books will be there when I want to read.

I also haven't paid for a book yet either, and neither have I paid for any internet downloading, it has been free with my $0 purchase of the books.

A friend bought a Nook. Loved it. Then the buttons to advance the pages broke. She got a new one but this might be an item to consider when purchasing a reader. I heard someone else mention the same issue.
I have the PC version and read from my laptop.

I'm sure that at some point I might find a reason to have to buy a book to download, but right now...nope...they have all been free when I download to my Kindle/PC.
