If someone has never seen the stage production, they may not know that it is all music, without spoken dialogue. When I first saw it on stage, that surprised me, as I thought it was supposed to be more of a typical musical. However, I then knew what to expect in the movie and I enjoyed it very much. I agree that some of the words in the songs were easier to capture than the live stage production I saw. Both are excellent.

DH and I went to see it, and we both found it entertaining. I thought the singing was okay - you could understand the words - but there are only 2 songs that I actually like, and then there's one, "Masters of the House", that is an annoying ear worm that I can't shake after several days. The plot moved along. Hugh Jackman was outstanding in his role.
I did not care for the fairytale ending, but much of the audience, which was packed, cheered and clapped at the end! This does not happen very often at a movie. This was a matinee showing, making the full house even more unusual. I'd say it was well worth watching, unless you just don't care for musicals. Teens need to know that this won't be a good source for a book report.

I saw it twice on Broadway in NYC....loved it....saw it a few weeks ago on PBS...loved it still more...saw the movie on Thursday and would go again right now. In my opinion it is FABULOUS! I can't get enough of it. I have the sound track from the first NY broadway production and I have played it several times in the last weeks...

I saw it in NYC on stage and have seen several high school productions and loved Them all. I liked the movie being able to see all the characters close up and the singing was great. My only con side was I like the volume of the live orchestra and singers more but otherwise it was great. am going to see it again this week.
