We have been having lows into the 4-6 degree F weather for the past week. I have been running my faucets all night long...and enough to make up for my neighbors forgetting to do this as well (I live in an apartment) BUT the other bldg did not do this, so now we are without water for the day.

Just a reminder to remember to do this too!!! I hate to hear about plumbing bills when a pipe bursts  or the hassle of trying to thaw pipes out...especially some who are not used to these cold freezing temperatures

Thankfully...I had my coffee pot already to go last night , and enough water in jugs to flush for the day LMBO and the time I would have spent doing dishes? Yep...I was sewing

DH did that very thing but the thingy at the well froze and all the water drained out. So we had NO water at all. Our pipes busted under the house in '89 when we had a big freeze. The vents are now protected a bit better.

Try putting a heat lamp in your pump house  we have to do that out here on the cold nights. Hang it down as low as you can to the pump, without harming/over heating it.

Hard to believe, but water lines can freeze even in Florida.

We keep a heat lamp under the house for the cold nights, and insulate around the well. also leave the water running in our kitchen when it gets below freezing. I hate not having water, it is the pits!!

Isn't it amazing how many times you head for a sink and turn the water on, even when you know it isn't there??? LMBO

Thank goodness for hand sanitizers too :D:D:D

I can understand why people were frugal with water when they had to fetch it from somewhere and carry it home.

yep, I complain over carrying it from the car to the house  I can't imagine carting it up a frozen slope from a creek or well....

The water I use to wash my hands gets poured into a bucket to flush the toilet  It is amazing how quickly one person can go through a gallon of water.

This post is scaring me! We moved in August to a house with a well (never had one before - city girl here)- do wells freeze? Ours is 500 ft deep and we have a basement, so no exposed pipes in a crawl space. Should I run my faucets? Thanks for any advice!
