Good Memorial Day weekend to everyone. I am 55 and I remember when it was a day for honoring our dead and especially those that died serving their country. Now it is just an excuse for the stores to have big sales and BBQ. I wonder how many grade school kids even know why we have Memorial Day. Not that there is anything wrong with sales and BBQ . I just wish evertone would take a minuet out of the festivities and say a little prayer for our brave service men and women.

My kid second grade class have been preparing for months for Memorial Day. They put a show last Wednesday and spoke about all branches of the military, sang patriotic songs and even called the names of all the presidents. It lasted about 45 minutes and they did everything perfectly. I cried. It was so nice to see these teachers prepare the kids for an observance like this.

We usually go to the cemetaries the weekend before or after to show our respect... It is getting to be too much for Mom to get through the crowds during Memorial weekend...

We have a parade and then after they go to the local cemetary to read the names of all the local veterans that have passed away since last year . The theme is always veteran related
