10 days ago I sent 2 tops, K size & twin size, to the LA quilter in another state.Have been doing this for 20yrs(same quilter),with never a problem
The quilter called to say it hadn't arrived...GULP....so that was Friday. No body knew anything till a man in a PO said it had the wrong Zip code on it.I knew better cause the PO clerk near us is a good friend & we always make sure the box is add right, postage paid etc. Then it's all typed by computer, checked again & sent.
I tried for a wk on the USPS "track & confirm" & got the same message every time...."no info available" .
Of course I was sick about it, so much work & a lot of $$$.

This morn, we went to local PO again & she got on ph,trying her best to track it down. They finally found it had arrived in wrong state......was then shipped to right state. At 3pm, the LA quilter called to say it had just got there.Big sigh of relief!!!!!

Even the PO couldn't say why it had arrived 3 states away from intended location.....nor could they say how they changed the Zip code to right one? The'd said it had wrong ZC....& they hadn't contacted us or local PO to get right one? Sounds ditzy to me, but thank heaven my quilts are ok.No more USPS for my quilts! BTW....even after delivery, their track/confirm site said no info available.

How scary!!! I am so happy they made it (finally) safely to the LA. I would send my quilts out to be quilted, but your scenario is why I am afraid to.

Several years ago I mailed a check to a vendor in California. A few weeks later they called checking on why we hadn't paid yet. I voided the check at the bank and reissued payment. About a month later I got a call from the vendor telling me the check had finally arrived. Apparently when the post office employee entered the zip code info for the barcoding on the envelope they had a dyslexic moment and put in 492-- instead of 942-- and it had been floating around in some post office in Indiana till somebody finally looked at the printed address that said California.

Friends in Ontario, CA say that a lot of their mail is misdirected to CANADA, very often they get it too late to attend events, etc.

So be sure to write out the address totally, with the ZIP in large letters, then put 2 inch wide clear tape over it. Then ask the postal clerk to put tape on the computer generated label. And be sure to put both your and the addressees names and addresses on a big piece of paper inside the package.

That way there's no way they can get it the wrong way.

Oh..we're talking about the USPS? Well................

Some years back we sold our home & moved. The escrow check didn't arrive for days! I checked with our local P.O. and it was in a box of mail being returned to sender. The escrow people used a wrong street name! Go figure!?!
