Default Momma dog helping to raise kittens

I go to my petfood store tonite for dog food and there behind the counter is this pretty brindle pitbull/cattle dog mix nursing (and yes I said NURSING) 5 baby kittens. They are just getting their eyes open and she is the model of a good mother. She had one errant youngster that she kept picking up and putting back with the rest and it was just so cool to watch. Within hours of her owner getting these kittens, she started producing milk and has taken over for their mom in every way. They do have to supplement with a bottle. In this election year where everybody is so negative about everything it was just so nice to see this dog be so kind to another species. Take note!

Oh so pretty. when i was young we had lots of cats and one dog. The cat had kittens and our dog tried to mother them too much. She licked them so much, they succumed. she buried all but the last one. She must have figured she would be caught anyway, she looked so sad. We couldn't chastise her. The next litter we made sure the cat kept out front until they were older and then our dog became a second Mother to them. she was so very proud for every little thing those kittens did!
