After retiring from the nursing profession a couple years ago..I can tell you that after years of working in the profession you get pretty good at guessing right on about a temp. and some other things...That is why the older docs.
are good at guessing at first glance...They have spent years doing it...

I'm an LPN and work in a facility for disabled adults. Most or all of them are non-verbal or limited in speech capabilities and so are unable to voice how they feel. We've gotten pretty good at spotting fevers by yes, using the back of our hand to the forhead, watching for flushed cheeks or red ears...and we are dead to rights most of the time. Another feature we watch is the eyes, because that's almost the first sign one of our people don't feel well...the sparkle is lacking from the eyes. (I could never figure out how my grandma knew we were sick by looking into our eyes until I had kids of my own...and by working with the special needs people I care for now.) Yeah, we do rely on 'gut feelings'.

Over five years ago I had the sensation that my lights were going out. That darkness would happen. I didn't associate it with an illness until after I had renal cell cancer and underwent surgery to have a kidney removed. After the surgery the feeling was gone. Really eerie!~ I related this to my family dr. and she listened and asked if I had this feeling again, thankfully I can say no to that. My DR. is really good at listening to what I consider really inane remarks. I am unafraid to ask any questions and relate anything to her. It helps her make a diagnosis. In most cases for me.....a good attitude makes a huge difference in receiving good medical help. And, in healing also.
