My SIL has been having trouble with her hip. She went to an ortho....here's what she sent me tonight:

" My GP sent me to an ortho specialist for the hip. The ortho guy was very flip and said I had arthritis and told me I could choose, surgery, meds, physical therapy or ignore the pain. I asked him if the hip could cause knee, ankle and foot problems as they were starting to bother me, too. He told me to make another appointment! I asked if he thought I should see a podiatrist, a knee specialist or could all of this be taken care of by one doctor and he told me he already answered my question and to make another appointment. I told him I was "fed up with his attitude" and he told me that he was "fed up with me" and walked out!"

I'm AMAZED that a doctor would act that way! She's not a complainer, she's an educated woman....and I totally believe she was NOT a bad patient.

I am at a loss for words... it takes a lot to make me speechless too...this did it!

Goes to show that all the diploma's and certificates on a wall, doesn't make someone a good person!

I believe it. The guy has a problem. Your SIL should complain to the doctor who referred her to this nincompoop and ask for another referral and get a second opinion.

If this guy is part of a PPO or HMO network that her health insurance has, she should file a complaint with the PPO/HMO. They require their doctor to meet certain standards, and I'm sure refusing mistreating patients doesn't meet standards.

Hi- your sil can contact her state medical board and file a complaint against the doctor. Also, if he is an EMPLOYEE of a medical clinic, the office manager or administration should be notified. Your sister-in-law hired this man to help her, not insult her. If the doctor has a private practice, his office manager should be notifed - and I'm sure her word of mouth criticism will cost him a few referrals.
Pass this along to your sil- if she complains about this doc, she has saved a few patients the trauma and pain she received by seeing this man.

I am speechless also ! Amazing how rude they can be and think they can get away with it  Arrogant SOB. Tell you SIL to report this to her Doctor and tell everyone who will listen, Chances are this is not the first time he has acted this way and will continue to do so unless stopped. Unfortunately maybe he doesn't realize how he comes across.
My dad sees a cancer specialist and I went one time for the appt. My dad warned me ahead of time to be prepared, she would come in talk, ask if he had any questions and leave. Sure enough she did just that and When I tried to ask questions, she brushed me off, ok I'm not the patient but still. After we left I asked my dad , does she ever smile, have a personality ? The next visit my Dad told her what I said and you know after that her whole attitude changed towards my dad. now they laugh , joke and the appts are MUCH better. I can only imagine how hard it must be to be a cancer specialist, and I don't think the doctor realized how harsh she was coming off as.
Sometimes Maybe reminding them how they come off to patients helps . tell your SIL Good Luck !
