Default Mylar plastic sheet for template making

I used to buy Mylar heat resistant plastic sheets. they were not clear but still could see through to trace template outlines. i am not near anything now and usually buy online. got a pkg of clear plastic. Traced outline and cut but the permanent marker had to be wiped off of the plastic. i used to write on the mylar one.
where can i find good mylar plastic? one review buyer was disappointed. no longer can see through the plastic so cannot trace.

You might try a drafting supply or art supply store. They sometimes have different weights and types you can use for a variety of purposes.

I have bought it at a Joann's store. Have you tried them online? Or HL?

I use the plastic chopping mats from the dollar store. You can see through them, they are very pliable and they don't get brittle with time. You can cut them with regular scissors or an X-acto knife without a problem! Plus they're cheap as you get 2 or sometimes 3 to a package for that dollar! :-)

Engineering / Architecture / Drafting supply store. They don't usually advertise, but they are around. Go there for poster size copies for large art quilts and landscape quilts and portrait quilts.

or go to amazon.com:'

I found these on Amazon that have good reviews:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PCVTA8/
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IRP0CO/

The above are heat resistant. You have to read descriptions carefully, as there are also template sheets that are not heat resistant.

My mother used to save the plastic "boards" from bacon packages and washed them well. Does bacon still come that way? I haven't paid attention. Also, if needing smaller pieces, try using the plastic from milk jugs. These are probably not heat resistant but certainly economical. Like the idea of the cutting mats from the dollar stores! Are they heat resistant?

Dollar Tree dollar store....love it, everything is $1. I also like their grocery section.......small portions of dressings, condiments...for those of us empty nesters
