Need some help with washing machine

Have a Maytag bought at Sears and had them come and fix it, well over $400 and repair man said buy a new one next time you have a problem. Real pity things cannot last and be fixed reasonable when they break.

We are going to try a few easy things tomorrow. The sale at HD is good through the sixth. Ironically, we ordered a new dryer on Friday. What is it they say about things going on threes? I better not jinx us....

Mine started leaking from underneath when only 5 years old. Sometimes it leaks, sometimes not. I just got one of those trays you put under the machine to catch any leaks. It seems to have quit now but the tray is there just in case.

Intake valve is stuck open. Usually a cheap fix and easy to get to

I need to keep that in mind on the speed queens. About 5 or 6 years ago I had to replace my washer; I Loved it; it had the top filter tray in it; so the water recycled through it; getting rid of unnotice tissues left in pockets; pieces of grass maybe not shaken off clothes. It was a SUPER machine; a GE; I got it in 74!!! And I still have the dryer only because I can still fix it. Mostly heating elements. I hated getting rid of the washer but no parts available. Imagine that! I did write to GE; saying it was The best machine they'd ever made and why did the get rid of that option. I now have a Roper and I Hate it. After only a couple of years, the paint is coming off the top front edge. Terrible workmanship. Good luck on a new find.

Our washer was just a couple maybe 3 years old when it quit working in March while I was away. He got on line and decided to order parts to fix himself. The parts hadn't arrived by the time I got home, yet. They hadn't even placed his order. He was not a happy camper. So he ordered from another company. 3 days later he got the parts and fixed it himself. He had the laptop always at the ready to reference. Cost about $300. for parts alone. We had purchased an extended warranty and won't do it again. It was a month after the warranty expired the washer crapped out. He purchased extra parts (plastic) because of fast wear. We aren't that hard on our appliances since only 2 people and not really many large loads. Most appliances with plastic gears won't last much longer than 2-3 years.
