Well I learned my lesson!! This really hurts as both my husband and I have been unemployed since last March.
I answered and add for someone looking to buy a book, I have it in brand new condition and offered it at 50% off for $13.00. She accepted my "fair price". Ok, I went to amazon and in good condition the book is listed for $550.00!!
At the moment she has accepted but not sent any check yet. I feel like the losing end of a yard sale find. :(

Just because it is listed on amazon, doesn't mean anyone will pay that much for it...i have seen all sorts of quilting books at those silly prices on amazon.

I agree with Watterstide. You see all kinds of things listed for crazy prices. It doesn't mean anyone is going to actually give you $550 for the book.

I think you should do the right thing. You posted it, you made an agreement and backing out of that would not be right. You no longer wanted it therefore the value is not truly there in it. And I doubt anyone would pay that. If you chose not to do this I would then make sure you let her know you have had second thoughts and are so incredibly sorry. If your selling on Ebay your rating might take a huge ding. You could lie and say something got spilled on it its ruined but you have to look at yourself in the mirror. I would go with plan A. You wanted to sell it, half off is still more money than you woke up with and its a clean mind you have when done.

"Do the right thing" is something I was taught since a child. I also was retaught this for a company I worked for. (Noticed "WorkED"). I was then asked to do the 'wrong thing' related to a client and the account. I could not live with that and quit my job with that company. Value is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you agreed with a price, even though the larger amount sounds wonderful, stick with your agreement.Like other's have said - who would pay that much for the book? Being truthful to others and to yourself will go a long way. You will be blessed.

Amazon has resale prices for books all over the place. I have even seen unsigned novels that are not first editions for rediculous prices. I buy it for a dollar and some people list them for hundreds.

If it bothers you to the point it is making you feel bad then if the check arrives, send it back with with postage spent and enclose a note saying Sorry for inconvenience but the book is no longer available for sale. That's all you have to do. If you do find the book is more valuable then you thought then contact one of the many booksellers at Ebay and let them make an offer. That is the telling, what book sellers are willing to pay for a book to resell. Oh, don't send the book until the check clears! Learn my lesson on that. ;)

I agree... I think that some people put riduculous prices on things just for the thrill of seeing if someone will bite :wink:

I am sending the book to her, as I know someone will enjoy and use it, that is priceless:) I had not posted it for sale, I answered someone who was looking for the book.
