I just got aids a month ago. While they are not cheap, they can really help. My hearing loss is not great but it is enough that I have to turn up the TV a notch or 2 higher than my husband would like and I seem to miss things people say so I have to ask them to repeat. The aids are the type with the little piece behind the ear (not more than an inch long). I chose those over the "in your ear" type since they are better at directional focus when in a noise environment like a restaurant. With them I hear everything great. For a few days it was almost like a constant "road noise" hearing things I hadn't heard for a while like the refrigerator or humidifier fan. But I'm used to that now and don't notice it at all. If you need them, you should really check them out but be sure to get a good doctor to adjust them. Don't go to a hearing aid store that employs untrained folks as it is all in the tuning and fit so they are comfortable and work for you.

I used to have hearing aids which helped for awhile, as my hearing got worse it was suggested I may be a candidate for a cochlear implant. I had a cochlear implant now 7yrs in one ear and it's great. I do not have anything done in the other ear, and no sense wearing an aid as it does not help.
