Default NON Fiction recommendations?

I've been enjoying reading stories of peoples travels, gardens, etc. and wondered if anyone had some good authors or titles to recommend. Only NON Fiction, please.
Here's my list recently:
Alexander, William The $64 Tomato February 2012 good
Blanchet, M. Wylie The Curve of Time March 2012 okay
Butala, Sharon The Perfection of the Morning Jan/Feb 2012 okay
Hopkins, Lynda The Wisdom of the Radish March 2012 good
Kanze, Edward Kangaroo Dreaming Mar/April 2012 okay
Murphy, Dervla The Island that Dared October 2012 political
Simonds, Merilyn The New Leaf January 2012 excellent
Simonds, Merilyn/Grady, Wayne Breakfast at the Exit Cafe May 10, 2012 excellent

Thanks for your suggestions!

"The Adventure of English" by Melvyn Bragg is about the history of the English language. Quite enlightening and interesting, I enjoyed it thoroughly. As a bonus, I didn't "read" it - I listened to the audio version so I got to HEAR the different pronunciations. It was also made into a TV series for BBC.

Bagdad Without a Map -- Tony Horwitz
Barefoot Sisters Southbound -- Lucy & Susan Letcher

Those are two that come to mind. I'm a big fan of non-fiction travel adventure books, too. I could go on and on with the list.

Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle"

The author and her family move to a rural area to eat only what they grow and find locally, and live as much self-sustaining as possible or do without. Very interesting experiment on what they missed (and didn't miss!).
