Well, I put it off as long as I could financially afford to do so....today after 9 years, I closed my ebay store!

YEP, still have a large inventory of supplies to get rid of, but I could not take the raising of fees, raising of postage, etc, etc, etc...when ebay announced that we would have to start paying a final value fee that would include the amount the person paid for postage, I said H*** No I will not....and so today...the doors were closed!
Talk about tough love...I am lost, but also elated!

I am however keeping my Etsy store open...

Hi Jacqui, I did the same thing about 6 months ago. It just keeps getting worse and worse.
I didn't even know about the FVF for postage- that's more than crazy!!!
Ebay used to be fun.
I still love to buy fabric and other stuff but I always feel for the sellers!

That stinks! I haven't been too thrilled with eBay lately as a buyer, so I can only imagine what a pain in the rear they are for sellers.

I'm glad your etsy store will stay open, though. Good luck!

I was shocked the other day that I actually paid more in postage than I did for a couple pieces of fabric...was painful but it's not the sellers fault. I'm sure the griping and complaining about stuff like that also gets rather old.

Can't say I use Etsy and I'm not sure how to navigate on it like I could eBay...also seems that people don't remove their items when they are sold.

Hope your Etsy works well for you. You could do a newsletter to all your prior buyers (me :) ) if you want to have a sale on your Etsy site so we'll know to go and look around again.

I use to love Ebay but stopped buying there a couple of years ago because of the increases in fees. Let us know when you get everything moved over. Good luck!

You can find serious buyers on Ebay without selling on Ebay.

Some years ago I sold rare, old and OOP books on Ebay as a hobby. I made a lot of money but it took a lot of time which I enjoyed devoting to it. That was before quilting!
I still pick up two or three during the year at estate and yard sales that will make me a good profit selling to serious online bookseller and make them a good profit to resell. I found Machine Sewing Singer bound in the green cloth for .25 at a yard sale a few months ago. I wasn't even looking for books but it was laying in box of books marked .25 each. The going price for it is over $300. I sold it to a seller for $150. He has the hassle of Ebay and online selling and I made more then enough profit for what I spent. There are a lot of newer books that are collectible not just the old ones. Some the book binding and publisher is more valuable then who wrote it. One day I'll find THE book, one that will be the crown jewel of the quest and I'll feel the same way I did when I found my FW just sitting there amid plastic toys and old clothes. I love anticipation!

yep so now you pay ebay and paypal for money that only the Post office will get, how is that right...
especially when ebay MAKES you add handling costs into the shipping..per last years big CHANGES....

THe last 6 months I was doing good to sell brand new books at cost, and notions were hardly worth the time any more, by the time I paid the NEW upgraded store fee of $50 month, then the fees to list, then the fees for final value, then the paypal fees, and postage for those that fell short, and insurance on the package, I came out with NADA for profit!

I thought I would miss it, but I have been scaling things back and I do miss my customers...dearly...but, I do not miss the Unfair feedback ratings, the stupid DSR's, the massive fees(which came to over $500 a month), or the constant, sitting at the computer to deal with it all...

I am going sell somethings off in lots as auctions this summer, but for the most part...I am so over ebay....
