Nurse plays Doctor
#1
I have an uncle in a nursing home whom I look after and visit weekly. He never had any children. I was always very close to him, even as a child. He will be 102 years old this Nov.
Anyway, his nurse Kathy called me last week and said he was complaining about his teeth hurting and he insisted on seeing a doctor. He does have several teeth broken off but last year when I took him to the dentist, the dentist was leary of doing anything at his age.
I told Kathy I would make an appt. for him.
Yesterday Kathy called to tell me that she had noticed that my uncle wasn't eating like he normally does because his stomach hurt. She then gave him an enima which then, well, you know the rest of that story. That was three days ago, and he hasn't complained about his teeth since.

Totally aside from the teeth/enima issues, how lucky are you (and your uncle) that the nurses are that attentive to his issues.
'Cause it ain't that way all over, regardless of the cost or who is picking up the tab.
Very lucky, indeed.

I do feel lucky. He is paying $6,000.00 per month. He has been there for 5 1/2 years. Very expensive, but at least I have peace of mind. It was either that or take him myself, in which case, I would have needed help. So yes, I do feel lucky.
The sad part is, none of the other relatives go to see him because they say he doesn't recognize them. Well, go figure it out - he knows me because I am there every week.
Kind of scary to get old.
